Default SLP cold air intake.... HIGHLY scientifically controlled experiment...

Ok, my carefully controlled testing parameters where actually sticking it out the moonroof of my truck while swerving down the highway at 60 mph.

I put my hand over the MAF end of the intake and using a precision calibrated flow testing device (my hand), I felt how breezy it was coming out of there. This was with the filter in place.

I then stuck my hand out the roof to compare what 60 mph wind felt like.

Exhaustive calculations show the exiting velocity to be 55% of the inlet velocity. Inlet area is 1.5"x14" and outlet is 4" round. That's approximately a 40% loss of energy or 'ram air effect'.

It's also 268 CFM of forced induction. Considering a 350cid sbc at 4000rpm wants about 400 cfm of airflow, I think 268 is a big help. It would still pull a slight vacuuum in the induction tract at WOT, but require much less losses to do it.

I'll take it.

Oh, and for ****s and giggles, I added a turning vane to it. the stock setup being perperndicular to the airflow didn't seem very well thought out. This plus the bigmouth air dam should be a worthwhile mod for the money.

This shows where the inlet is located, theres my bigmouth air dam, should help out, and it also shows the extra turning vane I added. In HVAC, turning vanes are used and typically reduce duct losses by 40%.

so long as i stay out of deep water i should be fine.

I need everything I can to keep up!

Cost... $180 for everything. I'll turn around and sell the new K&N that came with the slp and my cut lid for $30 too.

Not bad...That should help a ton in your quest for cool air.

Yeah, I made sure to do it at night so as to not look like a fool.

Plus I didn't get off until 9pm that day anyways.

It made my truck feel much faster though, put me back in my seat a little better and I could really tell the difference in throttle response!

Ok, thats it, i'm late for bed. I need to be in Puta Vista at 8am

You get the medal!! Holding that chunk out a moon roof and driving at 60? And testing airflow dynamics at the same time? That takes a REAL maniac! Only way you could have done better is doing shots of Tequila at the same time.......

Oh yeah, here's ten bucks. Give that Vette a bath.

Don't take my word for it on prices, I get everything cheap... I wouldn't want to mislead you to think you could get the same price.

BigMouth was ~$65 (traded services), $125 shipped for a new SLP with K&N. Heck, I only ended up paying $600 to put $1900 Wilwoods on the front of my vette. Got a whole TPI setup for $50 too!

I'm a good scrounger.

Thanks! But it's hard to pull the vette out and wash it, since it's up on blocks.

How does the air get into the MAF? I see where it enters but lookig at your arrows the air doesn't go into the filter area.

The horizontal part of the shroud is cut and the slp goes up through it, over the top of the air filter.

I could fab something up, like that SLP...except it wouldn't work on my car, since my B&M Supercooler is in the direct path.
