I think it was JoBy that did it. I forget, but I know he's over there in Europe somewhere.

I don't know what you are asking?
If you are installing a dana 44 rearend and your car came with a dana 36 throw away the dana 36,C-beam, and drive shaft!
You need the C-beam from a dana 44 stick car and driveshaft from the same.

JoBy from the Crossfire Injection vault DID use the D36 C-beam by re-drilling new holes.worked for him and saved some money.

and the driveshaft just needs to be shortened about an inch or a little more.

Not necessarily true. The D36 "C" beam is longer than the D44, because the D44 has a longer snout than the D36. You can simply drill two new holes in the D36 "C" beam in the proper location for the D44 and reuse it.

For the same reason, the D44 comes with a shorter drive shaft. It has been found, in many cases, that the longer D36 drive shaft will fit with the D44. Just make sure that there is some "slip" left at the slip yoke. Because the "C" beam prevents relative movement between the trans and the diff, less slip is necessary than on a car with a sprung (movable) diff.

Sorry.

you can get the driveshaft and the Cbeam for a dana 44 for like under $150. so I would just go ahead and buy it.

CFI-EFI Could you please explain why the 44 from a jeep and the one from a vette are not interchangable. Thanks

I used a D36 C-beam when I did my swap. I' couldn't find a 44 C beam for sale, so I used the one I had. I had to re-drill the holes, and later I trimmed the end with a bandsaw to make installation and removal easier. I believe the holes were simply 1" back from the original, but I can't exactly remember. I'll try to get you a pic tomorrow, I have to change my fuel filter anyway..

My knowledge base is limited by having a couple of jeeps and the vette. The Dana44 talks more to size difference from other models of differentials . The main reason why the center sections are not transferrable (viper, some hummers, corvette, and jeep) are that they are made to fit different applications. Someone may make the argument that the ring and pinion are the same, I don't know, but the cases are different. The jeep case (cast iron) is made for a solid axels, while the vette (cast aluminum) is made for "axel stubs" for the independant suspension.

To really get a hang on whats what, spend some time in the junk yard...

The C-Beam mounts on the wrong side for the viper.
Just find the drive shaft and C-Beam ,you won't get as much clicking when you step on the gas.I would try Exautic vets.
And don't forget the liquid nails.

For one thing, I don't think the Jeep housing would have the provision for the C-Beam

Here are some pics, the first two being Jeep, the second two, Vette

All that and more. They are just totally different animals. The ring gears ARE the same size. Certain internals may be interchangable, too.

I have a C beam and driveshaft left over from my 4+3 to ZF6 swap. I'm sure we can come to some agreement on price and shipping. I need to get these out of my garage.
