Default PB Booster Adjustment

I did a search and couldn't find what I am looking for. I remember someone posted that the rod from the booster to the mc was adjustable and sometimes not set right on a rebuilt unit.

I am having problems with my brakes. I have changed pad, mc, booster and gone thru at least a quart of fluid trying to bleed this thing. I still have almost zero pedal and with full force on the pedal the car does stop but not very well. Sort of just slows to a stop.

I am lost at this point and willing to try adjusting the booster and see what happens. So if anyone remembers how to do this the Help would be appreciated.

I don't know any other method but trial and error, but you need to unscrew the pushrod of the booster to extend it.

If you go too far, the brakes will drag.

ABS system maybe. Is it working?

Yes the ABS works. I can hear it when I turn the key and if I really stop on the brakes you can feel the pedal shimmy.

Tried bleeding again and that didn't seem to do much. Took the m/c off and had someone step on the brake and measured the shaft. Tried turning it and that didn't do anything. I did take 3 flat washers and put in the end of the m/c and that did seem to firm it up some. And measured the pedal travel before and after. The manual says max 2.75 in. of travel. Before the washers about 2" after about 2 1/4 ". Apparently there is a way to adjust the rod that I don't know about.

No, dont put washers in the m/c! You'll destroy it, if you haven't already.

If the pedal is firm with key off, your bleed is fine, don't mess with it.

The end of the pushrod has a part that unscrews from it. They usually come tightened all the way down off the shelf. Don't just spin the rod. Put a rag on it and clamp it with minivice grips then use pliers to unthread the end of it. This is all assuming it's an adjustable one, which is all I've seen.

It's also possible its defective. Get a hand pump and see if it holds a vacuum.

This is only about 6 months old and has less than 500 miles on it. As far as screwing up the m/c I only went around the block so I don't think there is much chance of that so far.

The rod coming out looks to have a small bolt on the end. Is this what you are talking about adjusting? If so I will give it a try tomorrow night.

Thanks for the advice.
