How to remove smog pump front bearing?
Does anyone know how to remove the A.I.R. pump front fan/hub? Helms doesn't show it, Haynes talks about prying the plastic fan off which I think destroys it. The bearing should be accessible since it's sold separately.

I pulled the front pulley, removed the rear pump cover, tried backing up the pump body with wood blocks and pressing out the front shaft in a vise -- but it's TIGHT and I don't know if I'm on the right track.

Just pry the plastic fan off. There are a couple bolts that hold the aluminum shell together. Remove them and you can remove the rear cover and get to the inside of the housing. You should be able to figure out how to remove the shaft and bearing once you have it all apart.

Hmm... The pump is off an '86 and the rear cover comes off first with the removal of four bolts. That splits open the pump and a rotating drum with a couple of vanes is visible inside. I'm guessing this drum is part of the shaft I've been trying to press out. It stinks that one can't see under the fan without prying to see what gives.

The drum is pressed onto it somehow. I gave up, lubed the rear one, busted the fins and graphite out, and called it a day.
What are you trying to do, lube it?

This was last on my list of things to finish up on that end of the car after some downtime replacing the timing chain/sprockets, oil pump, steering rack, P/S pump seal kit (new front bearing too), P/S cooler (from a '93ish), front rotors/pads, new front hubs (after discovering one bearing was bad), AND a new set of Falken sneakers.

If my memory is correct that bearing is locked in with an injected plastic retainer. If pressed out you may break the housing, or not be able to secure the new bearing in the housing. Maybe JB weld would hold it in. It's kinda the same setup as some of the U joints with the plastic retainer. Heat will definitely help get it out. I chromed my pump and had to seal the bearing with wax to chrome the housing.
