I am pretty sure that you can solve the problem with your harness and the purchase of a couple of pressure switches. The switches are about $5 each. Your valve body should not need changing. The switches screw into ports that are already there. Before you dissassemble, Check to see if the trans you have will shift into 4th gear under wot. This is a vette feature and you may not have this in your current valve body. If you have no 4th gear wot shift, and you do not want or need it, all is good. If you do not have it and want it, now would be the time to fix it. The 4 th wot valve is also somewhat cheap. Let me know and I will provide part numbers and approx prices.
I read these two threads on lock-up with much concern last Friday, seeing as how I was going to pick up my 93 after having the tranny rebuilt at EM. I got the heavy duty trans with shift kit and 2500 stall converter. The first thing I asked them was about lock-up. They said what the hell should rebuilding a tranny have to do with changing lock-up - it should work just like before. They were right. The only difference is the shift points now occur at a higher RPM and are much crisper. Great except at low speeds.
I was considering that issue as well - the difference here is that this was a "new" transmission / core etc and not a rebuild of the transmission that was actually IN the car.
Thus, the specific wiring harness and/or valving that is necessary to keep the 2/3 lockup functions were not swapped over from old tranny to rebuild. I think that's what the rebuild shops do to keep everything working properly. So in my case, BowTie was unaware of my desire to keep the lock-up functions (and I was unaware of those changes in their build, so I didnt ask them specifically to keep it) and thus the problem at hand.
This is also why my second transmission (rebuild from a local shop) probably worked like I wanted it too - they just recycled the appropriate stuff from the original tranny and replaced what was necessary.
Another reason why I should have just gone to AAMCO...
