I have been looking at an '88 Vert to possibly buy. It is an LT 1 auto. The brakes pull to the left a little and there is a clunk when you put it in gear or when you accelerate hard and it shifts. I was wondering if this could be the front diff bushing like on my '79? Other than that the car seems ok. Any information on these two problems or any other information would be appreciated.

If your state has a "visual" test as well as the tailpipe smog test, all 1988's came with pre cats on the Y-pipe and they are in plain sight with the hood up. Other than that, the LT1 has a much better induction system, no TPI long runners to limit air flow.
I was mistaken on the engine. I will have to get the car on a lift to check out the noise in the rear. Are there any electrical problems I should be aware of? I know my '79 like the back of my hand but these electronic beasts are another matter. Also, what auto tranny did they come stock with? Thanks again!

My '88 coupe has been a "no-brainer". It is relatively primitive in electronics compared to later years. I don't know which year changed from the mass air flow for induction, but that is what the L-98 comes with. I have read a lot of posts about the optispark. The L-98 does not have one. Mine has been trouble free. It comes with a 700R automatic.
My '88 Vert 4+3 runs very well with no items outside of normal maintenance. I can't comment on the reliability of the automatic transmission, but the rest of the car has no reliability issues.
The upper lock pillar covers (Pistol shaped plastic trim behind the door ) are scarce as hens teeth.
Hoses, belts , brakes etc remain available.
Many seem to have problems with the power antenna and it is tough to find a cold start injector if yours dies. There are a few tricks for bulb replacement and battery replacement, but that is what the Forum is for.
Good Luck
