I don't see a problem - the seats in My '85, far as I can tell, are the originals - perforated leather. The thing has over 200K on it now, and while the seats don't look New, they don't have any problems either - no holes, splits, cracks or anything else. This has the "carmine" interior color - could different dyes for the leather from the factory make a difference?
It seems to me that basically everyone is saying the same thing
The cars that are in a garage and are not driven much the perforations do better but if it lives outside and is driven more the perforations do not hold up. My 86 has perforations and the seats are junk so I am going the non perf route bc I dont think originality on the 86 coupe will ever matter much. Also didnt chevy quit making the perforated seats bc of problems ?
I saw that your current ones only last 5yrs, just to let you know. I used to religiously put leather protection on my seats and mine started having problems after 3.5 yrs, took it to the dealer and they replaced the seats telling me they were defective, happened to go to a shop for a headliner for another car and told them about my seats. He told me that putting leather care liquids on my leather to often will actually help shorten the leathers life. He said moisture will beakdown leather faster than heat. Anyway just thought you might like to know!!
Jim.... just to change the subject for a moment if I may... but I notice that you have a sternum belt with latch. I tried to get this from a number of suppliers and was told that they do not meet specs as there is to be one only release. Is this right? Or did you do this on your own?

Not sure what the specs are that the various sactioning organizations use relative to the number of releases. Since I have a stock seat, my primary concern is the belts separating during an impact versus myself or a safety worker needing to push 1 extra chest high quick release button to get me out of the car. Since I only do DEs and open track days, I've never had an issue with anyone regarding the strap and in fact, more than one person has bought their own after seeing mine.
I Bought A Set Of Leatherette Seat Covers Mounted On Foam Off A Guy On Ebay About A Year Ago And They Are Great! Take Into Consideration My Vette Is In Now Way A Show Car, Its Just A Runner To Have Fun With, These Covers Will Not Fool Anyone For Long, But They Do Resemble True Leather Well Enough. If Left In The Sun They Do Get Hot Enough To Fry The Funbags In Short Order! But I Have No Complaints As To The Quality!
