I just got bought a replacement instrument cluster for my 93 and was wondering if the cluster is as easy to remove as it appears?

Is your '93 instrument cluster the same as my '84? If so, where did you buy it and what was the cost?

Thanks

if i remember right... remove the lower dash panel.. remove the 2 big bolts that hold the column up.. lower the column.. remove the vents and all the screws should be accesible to remove... just unplug and pull it out.

its been a few years since i put in a 8k rpm tach in my car so i cant remember the exact details but its a DIY job for sure :p

Thanks... did the job today, took about 2 hours... it was easier taking it apart than putting it back together (aint that usually the case), but there were no left over parts... the cluster works perfectly... not bad for a 100 buck purchase from ebay...

Steve, here's the tech tip on LT1 cluster R&R. Just curious, what is worng with your present cluster? I bought an extra cluster and had the tach converted to 8000, just haven't found the time to swap it out yet.

for the past 2 years it has been blinking off, and would only work intermittently... It stopped working in the winter, and only worked in the summer when the temperature outside reached 90+ degrees. Even then after a bump it would go out. The mechanic tested it and said he believed the circuit board may be going bad.... Trying to tighten the connection did not help, although I did break the lense pushing the whole cluster (lower left side where the connection is).

When I reconnected the battery the new cluster lit up immediately... I think I am going to send the old one out to get fixed and have it on standby for when someone needs it.... if the thing didn't have the gas gauge on it, I could have lived with it indefinitely...

thanks for that link, I can see one thing that I did wrong, and that was put the steering column bracket on in reverse, the tongue part is facing down instead of up... so I guess I will go change that.... I wonder if it will hurt anything if I leave it as is?
