Quick question, this Opti has just about taken my last nerve. I used the instructions off the Tech help to get the crank pulley and everything out of the way of the opti, but I am only replacing the cap/rotor portion. Does anyone know where on this earth I can go to get the tiny star socket to get the 4- small star bolts off that are holding on the cap? The smallest I have is a 5/32 which is WAY too big.
I have visited all the parts stores near me here in NE Florida, and even Chevy won't tell me!
This tool is all that standing in front of me and my open highway!
I believe the tool you're looking for is a size E4 Torx. It's basically an inverted (female version) of the standard Torx tool. I've been keeping my eyes open at parts stores and tool stores, but haven't stumbled across one yet, either. I've heard that some AutoZone stores carry them, but I haven't found one in my local AZ store yet.
One other alternative is to find a standard Torx screw (one that takes a standard (male) Torx tool), and use the head of the screw as a "socket" to grab the head of the E4 Torx screw, using a locking pliers to twist it. Some guys just "borrow" one of the screws from their LT1's throttle body for this purpose. Obviously, if you do this and intend to return the screw to service on the throttle body, be sure you don't damage its thread, etc.
Thanks greatly! I now remember it being an E4. Greatly appreciate it!
You're welcome. Hope it helps. Just remember, when you're shopping for the tool that (if I recall correctly), a couple of those scews are down in recessed holes, thus the tool will need to be skinny to get in there (but verify my memory on this).
I couldn't find one anywhere. Luckily I found one of those traveling parts trucks, ie snapon or matco, and followed him to his next stop. He sold me an E4 socket for a couple of bucks.
