Brake Pad Rattle Question (new topic)
Okay, I can't figure out how to reply to my old topic "Calipers rattling, what can stop it?" So I'm making a new one. Today I went to Pep Boys and got a set of Raybesto brake pads for 100 bucks ! It has 4 red pads, 2 pads have a clip on one end only, and there are 4 more clips in the box. It also has two weird plastic thingys that I haven't figured out. I checked out a set of AC Delco pads, and IIRC they also had 2 pins and some other items in them, but they cost 150 bucks from Bill Stasek Chevrolet!  My question is, Do the Raybesto pads have the needed equipment to stop the rattling caused by the pads being improperly fastened to the bracket/caliper? thanks

Re: Brake Pad Rattle Question (stormy652)
If I remember right my pads only had 1 bias spring for each wheel. Not sure what those other plastic thingys are.

GM recommends replacing the pins when doing a pad replacement. If you look at your old pins when you pull them you will most likely see wear on them. If I remember correctly they are about $12 each, so the Delco price isn't that far out of line.
As far as the "Anti-Rattle Clips" ( I think GM calls them bias springs), if my memory hasn't failed me there is only one clip used on each wheel set. i.e. eight pads for the car (two on each wheel) but only four clips. I am not up to pulling a wheel tonight, but that is the way I think it is. Anyhow, take a look when you get your wheels off!

I did the same thing--bought a front set of Raybestos just for the stinking clips. Couldn't find them separately elsewhere. Oh well, I'll just eventually use the pads on the street.
The two clips that are riveted to two of the pads are the wear sensors.
The four clips that are loose in the box are what you want. You should put one clip on each front pad--four total. The rears don't need any.
Plastic thingys--no idea, I don't recall any in mine.
The Pep Boys kid had a set of pads that was being sent back under warrantee. I asked if I could just steal the clips from that set, but he wouldn't let me :(
Hope that helps.

Re: Brake Pad Rattle Question (6spd.89)
Not all brands of pads include the rattle clips. My understanding is GM stock pads include them. My GM Durastops did not. In fact, I heard only stock GM and Raybestos pads have the clips. Maybe the Ford dealers include them too.
