clicking noise
Hello all, a question for the engine specialists..
My friend owns a 88 Auto, i´ve told you a time ago, there was a clicking in the oil pan..
so, we decided to pull the oil pan and check all the bearings..
The rod bearings were not the best, not the worst, still we decided to change
them, they are not really expensive..
We also checked the main bearings, they were in excellent condition, look like new
we reassembled it, really with precision in every detail..
so, when we fired it up, after the oil gets warm, again, a little clicking noise appeared, your can hear it if you listen careful on the right side of the oil pan...
so, what the hell can this noise come from...only on the right side..
again, bearings are fine, wrist pins are fine...
catalyst rattling? lifters?
Please help..before my friend get angry and kill the car.. :mad

Re: clicking noise (corvette90)
hey, just a wild foot guess, but ........ maybe it's timing chain noise ?? can you pin it down any better with an electronic engine stethescope ?? it seems you guys have been thru thru the engine in some detail ..... the 'scope might be worth the $100 bill ........................

timing chain???
hmm, hardly to believe, the noise is only audible on the right side..
if its the timing chain, it must be audible at the left side, too- or not??

Re: clicking noise (corvette90)
ya know, it can be awfull hard to say where a noise originates from ..... other than it has to be a moving, rotating part ...... probably just as hard as explaining the problem over the 'net !!
