New Best at the track Yesterday!!!
A few of us had US 41 Dragstrip in Indiana rented out yesterday. Since my last visit to the track I have added Longtube headers, new clutch and a 3.73 gear. The weather was 90 degrees with 92% humidity, I thought I heard someone say the baro was around 30. Traction was very poor, If I left any harder than off a high idle It started to spin. I ran a best on Motor of 12.48@116.57MPH, My previous best was run on a 50 degree day with very low humidity. With hot weather like yesterday I would struggle to run 12.7's@112 I also have a big increase in my 1/8 MPH its up to almost 92MPH from a best of 89MPH, My worst MPH for the day was a 114.39
I did make 2 runs on the Nitrous, the first run, I open the valve on the bottle and with the extreme heat the pressure was up to 1600 PSI, I purged it down a bit and pulled an extra 2 degrees of timing just to keep it safe, pulled up the line after a heathly burnout and launched off idle, as soon as I got on the gas I fried the tires well into 3rd gear netting a 11.9@123.64 with a 2.07 60' Next pass I try the left lane, I do a John Force style burnout, roll up to the line, launch off idle, this time it sticks a little better in first but after the 2nd gear shift it fights for traction (not too bad) and again in 3rd a little. When I get to the end of 3rd gear I can feel a loss of power and this continued through 4th as well. As I turn onto the return road I notice my car seems extremely loud, almost......Open header loud. I get my slip from the time shack and its a 11.66@126.09MPH with a 1.87 60' (with traction I usually run low 1.7's and have even gotten a 1.67). Upon inspection in the pits I broke the weld on my headers flange where it meets the collector, it has an opening big enough to put 3-4 fingers into it. On the drive home I noticed a serious lack in power with crack in the exhaust. Im hoping in good weather with my exhaust fixed and some traction to be alble to pull a 12.2-12.3@116-117MPH on Motor and 10.9-11.0@127-129 On the Nitrous. I can honestly say that the Longtube headers made a huge difference, SOTP feels alot better but after testing at the track, I am very pleased with the results.

To bad you can't get that thing hooked up. Your NA mph is about the same as mine.

Ican't say how the Longtubes and clutch helped me yet. I was running about the same times with the bad weather yeaterday with the headers as the last times with beter weather conditions. Some were off 3-4 tenths and I was about the same so they must have helped. Can't wait for nice weather to to run in the 12's before I tear into the motor.

Mackey, I would love to be able to hook it up like you do, I tried some ET Street a while back and snapped the spindle on the drivers side. The best Im gonna hope for N/A is to be in the mid 1.8's and to get into the high 1.6's again on the Nitrous. I may try some ET Streets again at the end of the season.
Rich, Alot of the guys I was with yesterday were also about 1-2 tenths of a second off and 1-2 MPH, I cant believe how much of a difference these things made. I should mention that when I pulled my cats off that there were some broken pieces of that honeycomb looking stuff falling out of them, I dont think they were clogged but maybe slightly restricted.

Congrats on your new times in poor weather! Just wait till fall when the it gets cooler and watch your times drop. Your making some good power, now if only you could get some traction

Vettski, I am also looking forward to cooler weather for some more runs, I would still be pleased even if the MPH was the same and I could just hook it up a little better, the best I could do on Motor yesterday was a 1.944 60' if I could drop that to around a 1.85 I hope to be able to click off a 12.2x
TNT, It took us 2 hours to get to 41 on the way there since half of the people I went with were pulling trailers (Slowest car there was running mid 12's) On my way home with a stop for gas took me about 1 hour and 40 minutes. Its a pretty easy drive but I dont like puttin the miles on the car

Excellent times, Mike! I'm so pissed I don't have my car back yet -- I really want to hook up with you guys one of these days!

I have never run a car down the drag strip. I would love to do that and see what kind of times my vette would get. I am a little reluctant to go by myself the first time. I live about 10 miles from US 41. If I hear of you guys going again I would like to join you if you dont mind.
