Default Holy Torque Converter Batman...

Is it normal for the TQ to initiate at 1.5k??? I pushed brake all the way in, and slowly brought the revs up, and my car started to move at 1.5k rpms.

As far as I know the TQ is stock.

Anyone know whats up?

sounds about right - my 86 breaks loose a little higher, but i think they went to a lower stall speed in 87. just remember that with our cars there is no good way to measure the stall speed of the converter. the brakes give up before you stall the converter, and if you try the trick of flooring it from about 30 mph and note where the tach lands, the digital tach is not fast enought to get an accurate reading. but you can get a feel. i think the stock converter is rated about 1800. i think mine is rated like 2000.

When I bought mine I was told that it was a stock unit for an 89 and had a stall of 2200. Haven't a clue if that is correct but it seems to fit.

That's about the break away point of my '88. However this is NOT the stall speed, only the point where drive line torque overcomes the rear brakes.

Your TC should flash to about 2200 rpms.

My moms Blazer flashes to 3200 rpms!

Flash is usually pretty close to the true stall.
