How do I remove the oil filter unit ?
I am trying to remove the oil filter assembly but have been unsuccesful. I removed the 2 alan headed bolts, but there seems to be something else holding it. What else is holding it, or do I just need to just hit it harder with a hammer? I have look in the manual but can't even find the topic. Anyone know the answer? It is a 1996 LT4.
Thanks,

Re: How do I remove the oil filter unit ? (NoWorries)
NoWorries,
Thanks, I have not tried any persuasion yet. I wanted to check with the forum before I broke out the hammer. In the past, my impatient persuasion has cost me. Did you use a hammer of leverage on something? Anyone else have any experience with removing the oild filter unit?
Thanks,

assuming you are referring to the adapter which bolts to the block.. yah, just two allen head bolts and it comes right off.. you don't have to remove the center one..
mine didn't require any forceful removal.. only thing i can think is maybe your gasket is stuck.. gentle prying is all it should take if it hasn't fallen off by the time you go look next.
good luck,

I don't think that the '96 has the factory cooler sandwich. Are you talking about the restrictor? Are you going to add a remote filter or a cooler sandwich for an external oil to air cooler?

Re: How do I remove the oil filter unit ? (h rocks)
h Rocks,
I'm not sure what it is called, I'm calling it "the oil filter unit", but it may be called something else. It has the oil filter connected to it. Anyways, I am removing the oil pan and there is one bolt that I can't get to because it is blocked by the "oil filter unit".
Thanks,
Chris
