Default got problems guys, need some words of wisdom

driving around last night, shut the car off for a couple of hours....started her back up and she sputters (kinda like a spark plug wire is off, or arcing) replaced the wires....still sputtering, adjusted timing to 6* BTDC, still sputtering, have one bad cylinder (oil in number 4) changed plug, still sputtering. nex is to change all 7 other plugs and check again. is there a chance that a bad fuel injector could cause the sputtering? how would one know if a fuel injector is bad....do they set off codes (check engine light is NOT on) i hear that you can check for the click on the injectors with a stethascpoe, unfortunately, i'm not a doctor, so i ain't got one a dem! :D
anyone got any ideas......the most recent thing to have been done to the car is i removed the screens from the MAF......doesn't seem that this would have anything to do with the sputtering or woudl it?
thanks in advance.................this forum ROCKS

did you check the maf connector? is it possible that you damaged the maf when you had it out? it seems like i've heard these symptoms described with maf problems on the forum before. i think once it was just the pins on the connector.

good luck,

do you think that this could be a problem after a few miles on the car.....it ran fine for about 100 or so miles, then it just crapped out on me. shouldn't a MAF problem give codes? if there is no check engine light, does that mean there are no codes?

Disconnect the wire from the MAF, if the car idle smoothly then it is the MAF sensor.
