Is Haynes manual better then Factory Shop Manual?
I've read a few guys post that mention the Haynes manual is worth buying. I already have the two set Factory Shop Manual from the General. It pretty much lists every nut and bolt on the car. Is the Haynes worth getting for me?
Thanks.
Thanks.

It depends on your mechanical skill..the shop manual is written for the intent a trained tech is going to use it.Its still by far the best to have.
The Haynes manual, while gets alot of its info from the shop manual, will tell you step by step in general terms what to remove and etc...its for the shadetree home mechanic..I like both of them.
In fact, the Haynes manual reminded me of taking something off I needed to do while the shop manual didnt list it at all.

I have found discrepancies in both the Haynes and Chiltons as compared to the GM shop manuals. I have them all and only use the Haynes and Chiltons for the pics

I have the Chilton's, Haynes and Shop manual. The shop manual is good, but for a novice like myself, I like to refer to the Chilton's or Haynes for the pictures or I guess I should say photo's. They often help clarify any questions you may have. I got the Haynes manual for about $5 and the Chiltons for around $10. They were both used, but were in "like new" condition. After I touched them with my greasy hands, they took on the used look. I found them at http://www.half.com. There are several other used book sites that may have the manuals.

What the other guys said...
I use both. Helms has lots of good detail specific to the year...sometimes too much detail. One advantage of the Haynes is that it's written for the average Joe to understand. Example, Haynes says "Support XYZ with a floor jack and a block of wood." Helms says "Support XYZ with Special GM Tool J3841" They forgot to mention Special GM Tool J-whatever costs hundreds of bucks and isn't available to the general public :D
Also I don't mind getting the Haynes dirty, so it comes to the garage with me.

The Haynes manual is good for the pictures, and overall instruction on completing the job. I use the Haynes manual to supplement the Service Manual.

Thanks for the replies guys. Guess I'll buy a Chilton and Haynes since they are relatively inexfingerive. I've used other multi-year Chilton manuals before. They usually say things like "remove screws holding door panel to door", where the Factory Shop Manual says "remove the screw behind the handle and next to the lock". It's a lot more specific since it is for only a single year.
