Just got through replacing master and slave unit on my '93. Problem was that the shifter would "hang up" in 4th and also after grabbing 2nd rather aggresive wouldn't go into 3rd just 4th. New parts haven't helped much. I also noticed that if I slow down when it's "stuck" in 4th, as soon as I hit 40, the shifter frees right up. Any ideas? At this point, I'm wondering if it has something to do with the skip shift solenoid.
I'm pretty sure it's connected, it is however disabled in the chip. Just changed the fluid, probably haven't driven 20 miles on it, used the BMW oil. Clutch seems to be working fine, no air in the system. You can shut the engine off when this happens and it will go right into 5th or any other gear, but as soon as you start it, and put it back in 4th it does the same thing.
Go ahead and unplug the skip shift solenoid. Even though it is programed out, it may be getting a signal. Eliminate the easy options before moving to harder and more expensive ideas.
Now there's one less thing to fix on this thing...got under it and unplugged the solenoid and it shifts fine now. It looks like someone has done something at one time to it because the wires have that shrink wrap on them, unless it came like that from the factory.
