I am removing my master cylinder but I can't seem to get the brake lines (the 2 metal hoses on the side of the master cylinder) bolts loose!
They are the only things connecting the master cylinder to the car right not so I guess thats where they disconnect from right?
Before you chew them up, buy a pair of Vice Grips model 7LW. They will lock to the fitting without distorting it. I bought a pair for $11 last week when having trouble installing SS break hoses. GREAT tool.
The manual calls for the use of a flare-nut wrench. I purchased a set last month for $10.-12. They are for not rounding off fuel fittings. I had to pull my master cylinder last month.

Yes that is what you need, it looks like a box end wrench with a cut-out section to allow you to place it around the line
I agree, flare nut wrench. A low priced set from Harbor Freight fills the bill .Seldom used, so why tie up a lot of cash in these?
Since I'm starting to replace flex lines and front calipers tomorrow, I can't wait for Harbor Freight. So it's off to Sears before I begin, but I'm glad I read this thread just now.
I bought a set of metric (you need metric) flare nut wrenches before I started working on my brakes. 1 new master cylinder: worked on 2 out of 3 fittings, SS brake lines: 1 out of 4. started to round the rest even after soaking for days with PB Blaster and applying a little heat! The fittings had no rust on them. The 7LW Vice Grips were hard to find, but have jaws that grip the hex nut without ruining it. They allow you to apply a lot more torque to break them loose.

Most people will swear by Snap On because their flare nut wrenches won't expand and round the corners of the fasteners. I have had good success with teh Craftsman Professional flare wrenches. You DO NOT want to cheap out on flare wrenches! A cheap flare wrench can easily ruin your day (as in buying new brake line$$$$).
