I just brought an lt4 vette and it runs hot. I wanted to buy a hypertech progammer to lower fan temp. setpoints. Is this programmer also good for supertunning the car or not? Can I expect a little more performance from this programmer? I have a k&n filter with open cover and muffler eliminator pipes on it now. Thanks.

I'm of the opinion that there are two things a programmer can do very nicely: turn the fans on at a lower temp, and change speedo calibration.
As far as giving you measurable power gains, if you don't expect it you won't be too disappointed.
I think you'd be better off spending your money elsewhere. If you want a mainstream tuner you could try Superchips, as I've heard good things about them. Or you could try some aftermarket tuners like pcm4less,fastchips or try LT1 edit. I ran a Hypertech programmer on my 97 t/a and about the only use I saw for it was for changing rear gears and tire calibration, along with taking the speed limiter off. Good luck.

I bought one off this forum for a $100 for just that reason changed so Aux-Fan kicks in at 213. Also changed the rev-limiter settings worth a $100 to me....used to turn a/c on to cool car down in stop and go traffic in the summer.......
By the way, my temp went up to 250 and the fans still did not come on.
I live in chicago so turning on the ac did not seem to work because it was too cold outside. Is this how it works? When I picked up the car in Miami it was 85 outside and I turned on the ac and the fans did come on. Once again, thanks for the help.

If you can pick one up cheap they are ok but I would not pay full price. JMO

I bought one used for my LT4 for the sole purpose of changing the fan on/off settings. You can also change the speedo for gears or your rev limiter. I did not download the "performance" program. When I changed the fan settings I already had installed a 160* t-stat, and now I never see temps over 200*. I think its good for my use. I was quoted $180+ (by certain mail order tuners) to have my ecm programmed to change the fan settings, but at that time I had no other mods so a reprogram by a performance shop did not make sense financially. I spent $120 on the hypertech. When I eventually do get my ecm re-programmed, I have them set the fan etc., and I'll sell the hypertech and re-coup some of the money I spent on it. Make sure you verify with the seller that the vehicle the hypertech was used on was returned to the stock program before sending it to you, otherwise you can not use it.

After the install of my 383 in my 87 t/a, I also noticed my fans did not come on(one for the rad, one for the a/c). I also installed an aftermarket chip, so I called them to verify they programmed it in the chip, which they confirmed. So after some troubleshooting and referring to my FSM I found that the fusible link coming off the battery to the fan relay was burnt up, replaced the link and all is well.I would start by checking the fan relays, or your temp sensor, short in wiring or a burnt fusible link like mine was. Good luck in finding your issues with the fans.

If your main fan hasn't kicked on by 228*, then something is wrong - fuse, relay, temp. gauge or something.
