Compressor clutch change-91
Has anybody changed out their compressor clutch? Is it easy, can I do it on the car and can I do it without loosing and R-12? Mine is rattling when AC is off, I think. Looking for any experience.........Thanks, Frank

If it's leaking, you need to do more than just replace the clutch assembly. Otherwise: Grasp the outer hub with a strap wrench or oil filter wrench pliers and twist off the 10mm retainer nut. Pry the outer hub off keeping your hand underneath it to catch any shims. The Pulley and Coil, which is underneath the Pulley, are held on with snap rings - remove and take them off. Installation is the reverse. Make sure the snap rings are seated or it will all fall apart when you start it up. Shim the outer hub to a clearence of .020 inch. If you buy an OEM assembly, the shim kit is another 9 to 12 bucks. Torque the retaining nut to 10 ft/lbs. Go ape on it and you'll crush the shims.
