Wow!! The New Vigilante converter came in today and its shipping weight was 34 lbs.. so nine pounds less at the flywheel.. not to mention less fluid (9" vs 12").. I now understand a little more why people say the engine might spin up faster!!

Thats probably one reason, a big reason, why there is such a gain with the converters. Granted the higher stalls help, but losing 13 pounds is huge. Just think if you lost 13 punds in your A**.

Popular Hotrodding did a test on light verse heavy flywheels, not the same as an automatic/converter but interesting just the same.
Stock Flywheel 23.75 pounds & Fidanza 10.8 pounds = -12.95 pounds.
Mild type 5.0 Mustang went from 12.39 to 12.289 = -.101 sec
Supercharged 5.0 Mustang went from 10.863 to 10.725 = -.138 sec
That's what got me thinking to weight mine......

Actually the inertia of the new converter goes down more because of the reduced size than it does the weight.
