Hello everyone, this is my first post. I don't have the 'vette, my step dad does, but since he couldn't use a computer if his life depended on it, I'll ask the questions for him
He has a '90 (C4 I guess) and he has been getting flat tires while the car sits there. He took it into the shop and they told him that the beads are not holding. Has this type of thing ever happened to anyone, and is there a cure? The tires he has are P275 40Z R17, and I can't remember the damn brand! It's like, Fulker or Falker, or something like that.
Anyhoo, perhaps someone can shed some light. If no one can, then what are some good tires to get for it?
Did he have them removed, cleaned, and remounted? I've had a different car (not the vette) in a ditch before and had to get the "beads" cleaned so they would hold air before. Worth a try...
So it probably has the correct size tire, but why would it be losing air around the bead? He took it into the shop and they put some gunk in the tire to try to stop it, which didn't work.. Now he just wants to know if this is fixable or if he needs new tires
Hard to say w/o seeing the wheel.
Basic stuff the shop guy should have done:
Is the rubber bead damaged?
Is the rim dented?
Is the rim bead seat clean and unmolested?
Is it not just a bad valve stem?
Are they sure the bead is leaking? Put it in some water (The Pacific will work here) and follow the bubbles.
There is some tire goo that can be spread on the rim seal to get a better seal.
