1992 Ecm Or Opti ???
I replaced my ecm because the scanner could not communicate with the car .Now I was able to communicate with the car but a code 36 came up no high resolution pulse from opti to ecm .So I replaced the opti .Soon as you start it it gets a code 36 again.
Is my ECM bad or my prom does the old prom need to learn the new ECM or is the wire bad that sends the signal for high resolution pulse to the ECM.
Im lost .
thanks Mike

did you disconnect the battery when you did this fix?
There is a chance that the replacement opti is bad...
As I have stated in your prior threads related to this problem, there is a slim chance that the coil wire could be too close to the harness, or the harness itself has been damaged.

There is a simple, yet thorough, checklist for code 36 in the FSM. In your case it sounds like the wiring harness from the opti that runs back under the pass side fuel rail cover is going to be the problem.

Check for corrosion on both ends of the opti wiring harness. If there is any corrosion present clean the area and see if the code resets.

Ok, let me look at my FSM chart.
Check spark to plugs. Spark=check plugs
No Spark:
1. Check for spark at ignition coil wire while cranking
a. spark=inspect cap for cracks, secondary wires for opens, cracks,
shorts or poor connections, if ok then replace distributor.
b. No spark=disconnect ingition coil module connector
with ignition on using DVM check voltage from harness terminals
A and D to ground. (A and D are two center wires pink.black and
dark green) . Both terminals under 10V=faulty ignition feed circuit
to ignition coil or grounded external coil circuit or bad ign coil.
Either (but not both) under 10V same as above.
C. Both terminals 10V or more=With DVM oa AC scale connected
from ign coil module connector B (white wire) to ground crank
engine and observe voltage is it between 1 and 4 volts?
Yes--probe ign coil module connector C (blk/white wire) with test
light to B+. If yes faulty ign coil module connection or module.
If no, open ignition control module ground circuit (blk/white wire
is not getting good ground).
If voltage is 1 to 4 volts then there is another complete page of diagnostics. Let me know if you get this far and need it, my typing
fingers need a break. Sure wish I had a scanner.

opti or ecm problem fixed !!!!
PROBLEM WITH CAR
1. First service engine soon light and service asr lights came on .
2. We scanned the car it could not communicate with the ECM.
3. We installed a new ECM we were able to communicate with the ECM and it gave off a
code 36 no high resolution pulse from distributor.
4. We changed the OPTI distributor part # 10457702 bought from GM and water pump.
5. Started the car it gave off a code 36 again.
6.Installed another rebuilt ECM car works fine.
Original problem was ECM should not have replaced opti .
Car quest owes some money for selling me a ECM throwing a code any one ever get some money out of it .
Thanks Mike
