Default To Change Or Not To Change The Air Filter Cover...?

There is currently a K+N Filter in the car. Do other owners routinely change the air filter cover to a more open version as well? Curious as I have seen covers that are more open in aftermarket catalogs. Thanks.

You can cut your stock one. It adds a cool intake noise and should increase your power too. Why not, it couldn't hurt.

You can cut yours or buy one already cut. You can usually find stock air lids on this forum if you ever wanted to go back to stock before you sell the car.

I cut my own lid w/ tip snips and smoothed it out w/ a metal file. The best part is it was all free!! :D

The stock lid had an opening of 25 sq. inches on my 93. When I finished with it the opening was 75 sq. inches. I picked up a spare lid at Carlisle two years ago for $25, and cut this one. I have a picture on my web site under tips and mods.

I was actually thinking about replacing the stock cover with a '94 cover, but is it worth it. There are more openings on the surface of the '94, but enough to really matter?

The lid on the '94 that I had was formed so that the vents were facing the rear of the car, making a very convoluted air path. Replacing it with a cut out lid definitely made a difference, especially on the low end. I bought one already cut out so I could keep the stock one in case I ever sold it <which I did>.
