Keep an eye on the waterpump. The opti spark usually gets taken out by it when it leaks. I'd suggest a new set of wires and fuel filter replacement. Get the intake bolts and throttle body bolts retorqued. You'll be amazed by the difference in throttle response from that work.

You should definitely change the plugs and fuel filter. I would bet anything you'll notice a difference when you do. :yesnod: I changed mine at 32,000 miles and it honestly felt like I picked up 20 hp.

Anybody have any idea as to how much it would cost to get plugs/wires done? I know, I love working on my own car too. It's just that I'm in law school and have no garage, no time, and no tools. Maybe I can make it my fall break project or something...but I was just curious. Also, how much time does it take to do plugs/wires if self installed?

i just bought my vette ahd had it tuned by a mechanic (a good one who worked for chevrolet for 25 years) and i think i paid $150 or so. He basically just changed my plugs and changed my belt. He said everything else (wires, dist cap) were in great condition. If youre gonna do it yourself, leave the car out overnight so its VERY COLD when you tune it. Change the plugs (AC Delco Rapidfires are best i think), wires unless they look new, and just check your various systems. You had better know the firing order and where your wires plug into the distributor. Removing plugs from the passenger side in my 86 is very difficult, and if you really dont know how to set it back up then get a mechanic to do it.

I bought the Bosch Platinum + 4's and really like them so far. I don't know if it was the plugs or the fuel filter but my cars runs as smooth as silk all the way up to 6,600 RPM. It had a slight stutter while cruising around before. Not anymore!

Chevy wanted almost $400 to replace my wires. I kept the old ones on for now. I will probably study up and try to do it myself.
I changed my plugs myself. I changed 4 on Saturday and 4 on Sunday. It wasn't difficult, only time consuming (4 hours each side).

Jacob's makes the best ignition system. I had one on my 82, and it came w/ energy core spark plug wires. I have no experience with the wires ON THEIR OWN, but I know that the system kicked SERIOUS A_ss. Here is a link- $64 for the whole set of spark plug wires (this is the cheapest Jacob's place EVER.. all wholesale w/ free shipping).
