Default Rear Hub Replacement '92

Gentlepersons, I need some help: I have my new hub assembly in hand, old one on the car. I've removed the wheel, caliper, and disk.

There are three half inch or so bolts, each with a torx head, which secure the hub to the major aluminum hunk. Each of the three is inserted from inboard to outboard. I am conflicted here between removing the big aluminum hunk and extracting the hub bolts on the bench, or fishing around inside the whole assembly with my torx fitting.

Here's my question: can the three bolts to which I refer be extracted w/o removing the big suspension hunk?

If my question is not clear and you feel you can help, please e-mail me off list, as I have a .jpg which is fairly illustrative.

Thanks a million -- Harold halmc@sprintmail.com

i just completed this job with my whole rear out of the car, I suppose the you could do it if you can get the sockets in there with the half shafts on the outer axles, just make sure you reinstall the washer that goes between the outer axle and your new hub assembly,

it is really an easy job if you remove the whole knuckle, but if you don't have to i wouldn't either

Yes, you can get the torx bolts out with it on the car. They require a T-55 Torx bit which can be had at any auto parts store. Buy 2-3 of them as you MAY break one during the removal process. I removed the half shafts when I did mine since I wanted to change out U-Joints at the same time. That required disconnecting the suspension from that side......

Thanks, tim. Got me a T-55. You believe I can get the bolts out w/o removing the suspension . . ., even tho' I'm not removing the half shafts?

BTW, I assume that the removing the hub from the splined shaft once the bolts 9and the big nut) are off is no big deal??

I think you can get them without removing the half shaft. Like I said, I didnt do it that way, but you should be able to get at them. Since I had the rear tore apart, I figured what the hey and did u-joints too.....

Once the T-55's are out, the hub will come away easy. (unless the splined shaft is rusty but even then it should be a piece of cake.
