My mom took my car this morning around 6 a.m. to work and it hasnt been run for more than ten minutes since tuesday. She said she cranked it up fine let it run for about 5 minutes went to the gas station and then went down the road for about 5 more minutes then at a stoplight it cut off. It took 2 cranks up it cranked back up annd she pulled into a parking lot about two minutes down the road. Cut it off and tried to restart it. It idled at 4-5-4 RPMs then cuts off. Now it wont start period. Yes I read the other thread and I am telling her what it says via telephone. Luckily it wasnt me and my dads coming home early from work and both are super pissed. My mom is wanting to have it towed to the chevy dealer....As others have read about my alternator thread, my dad ordered one yesterday and it's coming today sometime around 1 o clock. I doubt that would have anything to do with it and I wouldnt think the car would be so cold it would stall out and not start. That hasnt happened to me. Also this car has NOT been driven alot since september started. I kind of adopted another dd for the winter months. I think its kind of amusing. It's not me this time that the car breaks.

O yea. I forgot to add the battery is fairly new. It has a new distributor, new distributor cap, rotor button, coil, new alternator today for the SECOND TIME in a year. This one is brand new from NAPA with a lifetime warranty. One thing though we got the car last june, the plug wires on it looked brand new and they were AC delco. We changed the plugs once with some Bosch platinums. Never changed the plug wires though. Could that be an issue? It hasnt happened before....Its also got a new starter which is only about 2-3 months old and a new fuel filter about 6-7 months old. Only runs on BP Premium Gas.

Sounds like your fuel pump is taking a dump. Check the pressure with a gauge and post what you have.
Its amazing how I think I got most of the major componets and then something like that happens.....Would a upgraded one do any better than a stock one? I believe my dad has a fuel gauge. He can check it when he gets home. Thanks though. Stupid quiestion but if the fuel pump did go out, would the injectors be close behind? Any specific brand that would be better than a stock one for a fuel pump? Thanks again.

Just a thought...could your mom have depleted the battery while trying to start it over and over? Might not be electrical at all. I tend to lean towards fuel delivery as well. The pressure test will tell.

Not really, a typical replacement from the local parts house will do just fine. You can ask for an AC-Delco to stay with GM or house brand, both will work just fine. There is no option that can guarantee a longer life or improve the way the car runs. Don't forget a new "sock".
I'm not diagnosing here, just answering the question, should the pump need replaced.

I dont know. She said it stalled out though. She said it cranked up and stayed at 4-5-4 RPMs and then died. The good thing is though, im not there so my parents cant say I broke it. My parents say "I" tore something up. When the bearing rod broke, I pushed it too hard, when the tranny locked up, I pushed it to hard, when the radiator went out, I pushed it to hard.......blah blah blah.... cursed car. A new fuel pump from NAPA is 85.00 dollars. Is this a good deal and good pump? My mom said it will not crank period right now and shes wanting to know if it should be towed home chevy place or what. Big mess. Can I get some info on the NAPA fuel pump though? Thanks.

Sock? How much? Does it come with the pump?

Tow the car home and diagnose before you waste any more money.
Ill let them know. Is there any way we can check to see if it IS the fuel pump before throwing parts at it? Like I said it wont crank period now. This morning I was thinking its probably just cold or something. Thanks for the replys guys.

You will need to check to make sure the sock comes with the fuel pump. Ask if it does when it is purchased. If not they are only a couple of bucks.
Agent 86 is right do the diagnostics first. There is no sense in replacing parts that are good. Plus it will reduce the frustration of the parental units.
I agree on the waste of throwing parts at it. If I had the smarts and money to do all this work. I would take it to a race shop have them strip it down to the bare frame and rebuild it from scratch.

I really appreciate the links but....you remember the other day when it wouldnt download it. Its still doing that. It says "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry for the inconvieninece." I tried saving it to my computer on my documents which it did then tried to open it and it said the same thing about how it could not open. Thanks though....I think it wont work due to my firewall protection contract. Not sure but....yea.

Of course it could be almost anything, but I'm always inclined to think that the MAF or IAC is involved in these situations. They're easy enough to check.
If my car ever flakes out and refuses to idle for no reason, I key the ign to run and hold the throttle wide open for several seconds. This should re-synch the IAC if it some how lost its position. Then attempt to restart normally.
If no joy, try and start again with the throttle fully open to clear a possible flooded condition. If that doesn't work, try unplugging the MAF.
It may run a little lean and may require some extra throttle to keep it going, but it should run without the MAF connected.
If this doesn't help then continue to check out fuel/fuel pressure/ignition etc.
