Default Aftermarket throttle body

What do you think about an after market throttle body? I have been chasing a floating idle for sometime, and it keeps coming back to the throttle body. Throttle blades dont return to home position, then the IAC starts acting crazy and losses count. So I was thinking of replacing with something maybe aftermarket? What brands are better and what other headaches should I expect?

I have a BBK 52 MM TB. I have never had a problem with it. I think ASM has a very good TB but might be a little expensive.

I run a 52mm BBK TB with no problems but think an AS&M, if they make one in 52mm size, would be a better product.

In order of quality: StockGM, Holley, ASM, anybody, then BBK. Though it's pretty hard to get wrong.

B4 you shellout $400, take your TB and give it a good wire brush/carb cleaner wash. use ove-off for the impossible deposit (note: oven-off does dissolve aluminum). If you have a dish washer, now is the time to cash in the honey I didn't know card (after you remove the electronics).

Purchase/install a new IAC...new TB's don't come with them.

Purchase/install a new TPS...

Check the EGR valve control actuator and vacuum line to the EGR. Make sure the wiring isn't frayed and is in good shape. Check the soft rubber AND hard plastic vacuum connection between the EGR stuff and the TB. You'll have to remove the TB to get at this stuff, so clean your TB and check this out while you clean your TB.

The other thing to look at is the pita you may run into when switching to a aftermarket TB. Beware of TB's that "fit" a wide range of applications. Yes they will all bolt in, but the 1) down-shift, 2) cruise control, 3)ASM, and finally 4) the throttle linkage are a pita if you don't have one for your application.

I took the throttle body off of my 95 in order to give it a really good cleaning...it was really, really dirty on the inside. Something you might consider doing.

However in doing this cleaning, I need to replace the gasket that is under the plastic top cover. Anyone know where I can get this at?

I have an AS&M 52mm TB. It's a bored out stock TB, and works great.

There is a guy on ebay that rebuilt mine and bored it to 52mm. This included the air foil = 150.00 and it has performed flawlessly.

Its been cleaned to spotless, new IAC, I had a guy off Ebay just rebuild it to stock new bearings on the shaft, and he removed the broken screws, but It seems when Im coming to a stop I have the rev the gas to get the idle down from lets say 1900 then it will go normal. Now its completely screwed!! When Im coming to a stop it just stalls out after a restart it barley idles? Im open to ideas?

I would check the throttle position sensor.

I had a similar problem. Check the TPS and for loose wires on the TPS harness.
