Vortec heads... will LT1 d-port gaskets work?
I have these crappy oval port headers on my vortec heads with the included gaskets and the bottom of the gasket doesn't even cover the port.
I want to try Percy's aluminum gaskets, but I need something that will seal this oval port header to the raised port vortec head, possibly the worst head/header matchup you could attempt.
I'm stuck between the round 1.5" gaskets, and d-port LT1 gaskets.
(i think this pic is upside down)
I'm worried that the D-port gaskets won't even cover the bottom of the oval port header.
And no, I'm not buying different headers or heads, I'm broke.
Ignore the carbon buildup, that's a whole nother thread altogether.

What kind of headers did you end up with? There's not a thing wrong with oval port headers as long as the top of the D-port isn't blocked. If that part's good, they offer some anti-reversion benefits on the bottom of the port. The easiest way to get a good gasket match is to make a template of your flange design and just compare it to various gaskets at your friendly neighborhood speed shop.

Look at the port, not the carbon.
The carbon is on the head surface because of the oval port gaskets and headers I pulled off of it, which don't fit well, hence the entire point of this thread.
Nevermind anyways, I got what I need from Autozone, they actually had the alum gaskets. Why can't people just answer simple questions and not assume I'm a moron?

Ah, it is a D-port head. The screen on my laptop is not very clear, was hard to see with all the carbon.
Get the Percy's LT1 gaskets, they work very well on my LT1 heads.

Flange needs work
Looks like you need to weld on your headers and file it flat to get the headers to seal good. Needs more surface area on the bottom of the tube.
No gasket is going to seal good with the port flange so low on that header. The bottom of the header port O-ring is actually hanging in the air where there are reliefs for the head bolts.
Thanks for the pics, have been wondering how well my TPIS headers will work with fast burn heads. What brand are those?
You also need to weld up the side of the port where there is no O-ring, where the header has a slight black mark.

When did you start answering them? I don't mean to be an azz, its just frustrating when you're looking for a seemingly easy answer but the only responses are ones basically telling you you're a dummy. I guess if I was smarter I would've just ignored any posts that I considered unhelpful, rather than berating them.
Carson, the headers (dynomax non-vette) will fit, it's just that the gaskets that came with them are even larger than the header ports. The header does overlap the flat part of the head slightly. The key is getting a gasket that fills in that small area also. They're a pretty crappy header, but they'll have to do for now.
