Traction Control: ASR, can you modify the programming?
I noticed the traction control got better and better as the C5 came abou then the C6. Is there any way to get into the traction control on a C4 and modify it for better traction?
Darn. We need to go and kidnap a programmer from GM that knows how to unlock that menacing thing called ASR. The newest cars are pretty sophisticated in their ASR/Traction controls.
You can adjust how much spark retard it can apply.
I use CATS Tuner, Novice here, or lets say I have it. Where is it and have you ever played with it?
I know eventually it throws on the brakes and pushes the throttle back. Would adjusting the spark retard reduce these other effects?

Lot more to it in the newer ones than just the programming. Better brake controller, faster processor, more sensors, etc
Mate if you had a 94/95 id change them for ya!! I honestly wouldnt like to guess at what sort of changes you would need to make to get it the way youll be happy with it, and again, if you had a 94/95 it would probably be alot easier to experiment with it. It might take you a few goes to get what you want from it, but if you have the ability to burn your own chips, get to and and experiment!!

I have the software, burner etc etc. I may look into this further, cant hurt. The only thing that the ASR does thats a pain is the throttle and brakes application for severe traction loss. Its like throwing an anchor out of the Vette.
My '94 has that parameter as well. In the switch constants, there is a check box for traction control. Even with this set to disabled, the asr still works, it just doesn't retard the timing during an asr event. In other words, it just works the throttle relaxer and brakes harder until it gets the desired results.

I wish there was a way to do away with the kick in the foot and just cut back the power via retarding the timing. If you unplug the ASR box under the hood and remove the ASR diagnostic code would you have the situation where you don't have the pedal kick but the timing is still retarted.
Connect the throttle cable straight to the throttle body. It cant close the throttle blades then. I dont know if it would set a DTC but it shouldnt if its still plugged in.
