Default California legal shortie headers?

My 88 has a new carsound cat and Magnaflow catbacks and mufflers. From the cat to the engine is stock. I'm trying to figure out if shortie headers and a 2/12" y pipe will give me better performance. I have to keep it California smog legal. I am interested in a good set of ceramic coated headers. I have seen some cheap headers on Summitracing.com but none with the smog crap that I need. Is this a good mod or a waste of money?

General concensus is the shorties are good for weight savings, but thats about it. You certainly won't feel any SOTP difference.

Hooker has a set of shorty headers that will work and id CARB-certified D-164-4. But they cost $580

Hooker or Edelbrock will probably be your best bet for CA-legal headers:
This link is for Hooker 1988 Corvette headers:

I clicked on that Summit link, but did not find EO#s for 1988. Can you be more specific. I'd like to think you are right, but I doubt it.

About a year ago I did a pretty exhaustive search (by my standards) and found only one company that had received an EO# for their shorty for a 1988. That was JPA, however they never produced the header! I could not believe that! I even called the manufacturer and gave them their part number. Their answer: Sorry Charlie!

I guess I'll keep my stock headers.

There is a shorty EO# by JBA, but they never actually manufactured it.

That EO# is only valid for L98/LQ9 F-bodies, and LT1 & LS1 Corvettes, and some trucks. NOT the L98 vette.

(note that a single EO# can cover multiple p/n's)

I`m not sure about the L-98,but I purchaced a set for my `96 LT-1 and I found the quality to be very good. They are a direct bolt on with all of the smog hookups, and are ceramic coated.

lot of posts about pacesetter and their quality doesn't make the grade.I have jba on my lt1 and their quality is top notch, don't know if they make a set for a l98.A friend of mine has hookers made for a l98 on his lt1 so maybe they are interchangeble, only a thought.
Shorty's don't do a lot but look good.
