700-R4 removal
In high school I pulled one... it wasn't bad... fun actually, learning exp.
Since then I've done 3 700R4's.... the Th350 in my Chevelle.... An Isuzu (don't ask) 5 speed... Jeep,... and a ford explorer trans which fought me but wasn't all that bad.
Wow thats actaully alot of transmissions!!
I have a motorcycle stand. This made it so easy to remove the trans it was almost humurous. who would have thought. Do a search like they said, pleanty of info.
The only thing you want to watch out for is seating the coverter... the rest is all lossening bolts and muscle.
Good Luck!

Sorry Danspeed my skill level is low practical wise, in theory i had a lot, but since my transmission has been replaced 4 times so i said if u have tools and a weekend and somebody to help u, its not bad.
I had a spare transmission which i sold to a Forum member and darn he installed the same day he bought from me, i said wow thats pretty quick.
Definitely the first order of business here is to make sure the car is properly and safely supported with good jack stands, and I always like to place an inflated tire/rim under the car to give me just enough clearance for my head, ...just in case....you never know.
cheers.

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
I took my 700r4 out 4 times 2 years ago and I loosened the rear bolts on the C beam but did NOT remove it. If you can find, borrow, or buy - get a tranny jack. It is worth it's weight in gold when removing & installing the tranny.
I have had my 86 700r4 out 18 times in the last 2 years and my 94 out 4 times in the last 2 years.
My 700 is manuel valve body but I still always break something.I am running 10.10 at a 134 mph .Maybe I have the wrong builder.

Even if you can put the car on a lift, have either a transmission jack or at least one strong helper. The 700R4 is kind of a heavy puppy.
Don't forget to remove your distributor cap prior to doing the job, or when the engine tilts back, it will break.
Other than that, drain the transmission, remove exhaust system, remove the C brace and drive shaft, support transmission with the jack, disconnect shifter cable, disconnect wiring, disconnect cooler lines, remove 3 torque converter bolts, remove dipstick, support engine and remove 6 bell housing bolts (Looooonnnngg extensions needed for top two), separate transmission from engine, and down she comes. Installation is reverse of removal.
Be careful and happy wrenching.
Incidentally....a word on cinder blocks and the like. DO NOT get under a car supported by bricks or cinder blocks. These can explode suddenly and the car will fall on you. Not good. Buy good jack stands and use them correctly.
Owning a Corvette is no fun if you're too dead to drive it.

Rossler does not believe in manual valve bodies, he said, get in, put it in drive & go. Not sure if the 2-step I put in at the same time helps as well.
I definately recommend him!!!!!!!!!!!
I also place a section of corregated box down with a piece of old carpet on top under the car for comfort. It's doable , but use a lot of common sense when jacking the car & supporting it properly before you crawl under it.
