Default How do I tell if a fusible link is bad ????????

I'm slowly learning electronics and have isolated my lack of a high speed function on the a/c fan to a bad ground(I've replaced the control switch & the high speed relay). How can I tell if the link on the starter is bad? Do they break like a fuse or is there some other way to determine the condition? Thanks for the help.

Put an ohms meter on it and see if you have continuity

Jon:
I've got the meter, but I'm a relative newcomer to electronics testing. Do I put one probe on the link and ground the other? Thanks for your help.

The fusible link is essentially an in line fuse on the positive terminal of the battery. To determine if the fusible link has been blown , one test lead of your ohmmeter should be on the positive terminal of the battery and the other test lead should be on the end of the fusible link going to the circuit it protects. If the link is ok, then the ohmmeter will read the same resistance as when the test leads are touched together, or very low resistance, usually less than 0.2 ohms.

put the meter on the ohms scale make sure no power is going to the fuse, then put the meter leads on either side of the fuse, and see if the meter needle moves also if you use the 12 volt scale and with power to the fuse, see if you have voltage on both sides of the fuse

If you use the ohms scale you should not put power to the meter, it will blow the meter fuse or the meter
