What kind of scan tool?? (87)
HI Im looking for a scan tool for the 87 I have. Not just to pull codes and not to reprogram, just to see whats going on and make sure thing are set right. My dad has a nice otc scan tool but it wont go back to 87. Is there a program I can get for the laptop?? Im not real good with this computer stuff. Thanks Dave

Dave, i'm currently run into the same problem with my with my 87'. My air fuel meter is constantly giving me lean readings. I have heavy mods and a 12:1 compression ratio on 110 octane. I also need to see what my emc is seeing.

If you've already got a lap top, then you would only need a cable to connect it to the ALDL, and the monitoring software. There are different options out there, depending on the port (serial vs USB).
Check out http://www.akmcables.com/ and http://www.moates.net/
for some options.

I have an Actron 9450 and it's great. It offers a lot more info than the paperclip method. It's made by SPX which make commercial code readers and automotive test equip. It also lets you get into the field service mode on OBD I cars to test certain motors and relays like fans, your AC compressor, etc.

You asked for "opinions" and you are likely to get many! I use Turbo-Link (http://www.turbo-link.com/) and there is a good demo on the web site. This will cost you just under $300 and you will need a laptop.
