Where do you get 160 thermostats??
I tried all the auto parts stores trying to find a 160 thermostat for a 93
LT1 Corvette and no body had any.
All they had were 180 ones and didn't know where to get a 160!
Where do you get them??
Thanks
Herb

Last winter, I had the 160 in my car and the heat never got hot enough. I don't know if it was because of the thermostat or not. Maybe it was a coinidence but I dont believe it was the heater core because the passenger side was dry. I got mine from Napa. They had 160 and 180.

My car has a Pro Charger and now different heads.
I was told it should of had a 160 when the Pro Charger was put on and definitely should have one now.
It was told to me like I could get one anywhere. Wrong!!

The short answer is it won't reduce your peak temps compared to a stock stat, but most people don't seem to comprehend this.
I would post a thread to see if it's the right choice of thermostat or not before proceeding.

But regardless, your post is pointless and doesn't apply here. Why not put a Ron Davis radiator in there too and then tell us about how your 160 stat reduced peak temps even more? Enough side tracking though, I won't talk about your setup anymore in this thread.

I bought a HyperTech 160* for my LT1 at a local speed shop.
Make damned sure that any 'stat you install in your '93 is the correct one for an LT1, or you'll have overheating issues (unless your '93 is a ZR1, in which case, disregard this note). The LTx engines use a two-stage 'stat, that regulates not only coolant flow through the radiator, but also bypass/recirc flow.
Be well,

I wouldn't ask the "which is best" question about thermostats on here unless you want to open up a can of worms.
but to answer your question, I found ALL the local places had them for my L98. Most averaged $6-10, various brands. Autozone, Advance/Discount, Ecklers (well, they are local to me).. they all had them.
Not sure if the LT1's thermo housing is different or not, they may just not carry one for a "corvette" but if its a standard opening that most SBC engines use, you might could just give them a part number to find instead of by vehicle.

This is a controversial subject on here.
Several folks recommend the 160F thermostat under the therory that cold air is denser and thus carries more O2.
The other side of the story is the engine oil needs to reach 212F to boil the water and other pollutants out.
I found the Robert Shaw thermostats at Pep Boys.
My opinion: If you live in a cold climate, I would probably go with the 180 degree thermostat.
If you live in the southwest desert, it really doesn't matter what temperature your thermostat is, the car will register 140 degrees when you start it and reach 180 before you can back out of the driveway and probably run in the 225-245 range in traffic regardless of what thermostat is installed.

I had my PCM re-programmed by PCMFORLESS a few weeks ago and Bryan recommended I go with a 160 stat.
I haven't found one yet for my LT1, so I'm still using the 180 until I do. If anyone knows the part number, I appreciate you posting it.
BTW, the LT1 stat IS different from the L98.

The reason the LT1 thermostats are different is because the engines are reverse cooled. The housings look quite a bit the same as an SBC housing. When you swap the thermostat make sure you note which direction it's facing to put the new one in the exact same way. Quit debating and go get a 160* thermostat and have your fans reprogrammed. Chances are you don't live in a cold enough climate to warrant worrying about too little heat. Remember, heat is a byproduct of power.
These can be found at any vendor. Thunder Racing for the southern part of the US is usually the one I use. I'm sure there's a ton of vendors on here that can offer it to you. I'm curious as to why none of them have responded to this thread. Over in the C5 section you could've gotten a response the same day.

When I went with my 396 my engine builder told me to go with a 160 T-stat. I checked all the local stores, but I ended up having to order one online from Summit.
I also have an elec water pump and a Dewitts radiator and the whole setup works great for me.
