Default 5000rpm at track with slicks BOOM

My vette broke this weekend at the track, with slicks an a NOT slippy track. And with mcleod street twin.. my rear couldīt take that power.

Donīt know how to upload a pic at my broke part. But itīs the spindle, rear wheel outer that is in two parts now. http://www.madvet.com/shop?part=3.1128.602556

Why did that one broke before the shaft? The right side seems ok.

Looking into this kit http://www.neverliftracecraft.com/NLRC0121.htm
Anyone know the price on that one? e-mailed and called no answer.

I wanna make a 10sec dailydriver, runs 11.13/129mph with 1.72 60ft on a slippy track.

I have a replacement spindle from a 90 ZR1 if you want to drive while deciding on that straight axle conversion, send me a PM if you are interested.

Those small diameter spindles are a known weak point. If you don't go with a solid axle, you can upgrade to some seriously strong 31 spline spindles:

This company sells compatible rear bearings that are machined out to 31 splines:

http://www.chassisworksinc.com/

They are not shown on the website, but they do have them, here is an image of the before and after:

As far as getting 31 spline spindles to go with them, here is a quote from another forum member who had 31 spline spindles made:

Quoting 97AGGIE's Post:

"Try Summers Brother's Axles. They are out of California. Their phone number is 909-986-2041. Ask for Ole. They are known for awesome custom axles. They custom built me a set of 31 spline billet axle stubs and also modified my factory wheel bearings to accept them. Looks stock but will NOT break. In fact, when they sent them back to me, they told me that they were confident that I would NOT break them, but could not guarrantee that I would not find my next weakest link...sure enough...I exploded a half shaft after that and had to purchase carbon fiber ones. Have had no probs since. By the way...my car is a 6 speed, 383, on a 250 shot and has gone 9.8's @ 148. I used to break a lot of axle stubs!

I tried the heat treated stock versions before and broke 3 sets of them. Really not worth it. There is only so much strength that can be obtained out of that diameter axle stub. You can tell Ole @ Summers Bros that you are interested in what he made for the guy in Texas. I have had them for over 2 years and at the time, this was the first time he had ever made something like this."

That is a pretty slick deal!

What was the damage for the upgraded hubs and stubs?

Leo is not selling it as a kit. I have talked to him a few times and he said he wanted to sell it as a kit but there are too many variables and he will not sell it as a kit. Depending on what you go with, to have it installed will run you $6,000-$10,000.

I donīt have the time as an issue, the thing is that the stock rear end aint done for 60ft at 1.4-1.5sec. And to rebuilt the rear end so it can handle 100-200 passes on the track with 60ft 1.4-1.5sec maybe cost more than a straigt axel kit and will it hold??

On my 1.72 60ft the car is sliding out 3/4 on first gear until it hooks up. And for once I got the track on the wheels it broke.
In sweden GM parts, hub, stub and abs sensor cost 2000usd + shipping.. and thatīs only on one SIDE!

I often buy from usa, but it takes 2weeks to get the stuffs.

So if I wanna upgrade my Dana 44 to a axel that will hold for 1.4-1.5sec in the 60ft.

What do I need? And from who?
Iīve e-mailed to http://www.chassisworksinc.com/ about hubs and stubs.

Than Denny's half shafts seems to be good?

But than to the diff, a spool? Can I drive at street as normal?
What gear? 4.11 and what brand of everything?

Donīt wanna brake this again.

4000-8000$ to rebulit the rearend?

Next weekest link.. transmisson? Drive axel?

Clutch is a mcleod, so it should hold.

Thanks for your answers

If you find out I'd be curious as to the price of those bearings and stub axles with 31 spline. I'm sure they are not cheap!!

The hubs are very affordable from Chassis Works ... The spindles, I don't know. Corvette spindles are not available from Chassis Works, so it would have to be from Summer Bros or another company.

It would be great if we could get together a few 31 spline spindle buyers from the forum, as it would be more attractive to the manufacturer to set up to make a run of more than just two.

I just received a PM from a member that stated that he tried contacting Summers Brothers and apparently they are now under new ownership and Ole is no longer there. I gave him some addtl information, so w/any luck they still have some of the information on the stuff they made for me. If I am not mistaken, for 3 wheel stock wheel bearings(they did another one I had in case one went bad over time) to be modified, and for the 31 spline stubs, was in the area of $600. Not too bad of a deal for a REAL problem solver in my opinion. Hope this helps.

Thats not so expensive 600$ it itīs for both sides.. From midwork.com stock/replacement cost 673.95$ hub and stub on both sides.

Then I hope this come to reality so I maybe can upgrade my car when winter comes.

NeverLift did the conversion in my car, it works great and was well worth the money. When you look at the quality part you get and the workmanship the cost is cheep. I know I spent a total of more money on Dana 44 stuff over the 6 years.
Get a quote from Leo on what you want, I put a lot of extras on my job and it was just north of that 10G mark.

I'm guessing that 97AGGIE provided the bearings that they then modified; but even so that was a great deal.

It looks like the 31 spline axle setup from Summers Brothers is rapidly becoming a reality. Thanks to 97AGGIE's help, they have located the drawings from the set that they made for him 3 years ago.

More details to follow ...
