Default ANother coilover post with a PIC !! Bent rear shock mount Seen !!!!!

I was at a shoppe recently and noticed this on one of the c4s. The shocks are qa1s or whatever with the stock base leaf spring. Not sure how the heck it happened but the shoppe mechanics didn't even know anything was wrong so I left it at that.... Sorry for the pic quality I used my phone.

I never thought the coilovers were a problem on the cars. Do the older c4s have different knuckles? It is aluminum and it almost looks a lil scary after looking at this car.

If the bump stops are intact, the only way I see that bending is too much force from the coilover!

I was wondering why the first two posts didn't point that out. I kept looking thinking I was missing something. Glad you said it, I thought I was going

Duh. I saw the threads on the shock casing and then quit thinking. I don't see any spring bolt behind there, but it's unclear.

If the shock did that he had to have bottomed it out without a bump stop or had too long of shocks, or hit a reallllllly nasty bump in the road.

Larry said shocks don't transmit any substantial force. Curious what he says about this one.

My apologies. This car does NOT have coil overs. I was just showing how this car with aftermarket shocks had bent mounts... and how it might interest those with coilovers.

Maybe if the car had coilovers, it wouldn't have happened...

You need to up your dose of ginkgo biloba, CC, your memory is still failing.
What Larry actually said was:

The case shown in the picture was probably (my guess) caused by a seized shock....which would place even more stress on the mount(s) than a coilover would.

Rebut, CC?

SInce it was an adjustable shock my guess is maybe he had them at the very stiff setting ? I didnt post this to bash coilovers just wanted to show that somehow these shock mounts did bend. And the owner didn't even know it.

This thread should be closed and deleted... enough bad info regarding coilovers we don't need any more MISinformation.

If it can't hold up to a stiff shock how is it supposed to hold up to a spring and a shock?

If the shock siezed, you'd think he would know about it. I think that guess is a long shot. Maybe they accidently put JB weld inside it from the factory instead of shock oil. It seems to be an 84-87 C4 based on the parking brake cable attachment, so who knows how old those shocks are.

Do all QA1s have threads for coilovers? If not, it seems more likely he had coilovers on the car at one point then removed the coils.

Does this mean my shock mounts are too weak for my shocks??

What year C4 is that?

Look familiar?

The only shocks with outer threads are their coilovers. Maybe the owner saw them bend so he went back to the leaf spring? I even see what looks like surface corrosion where the spring cup was possibly installed at one point.
