how accurate is the stock tachometer?

Default how accurate is the stock tachometer?

the reason that i ask is becuase its what i used to set the idle. if it reads 40 (400rpm) in D how close is it?

i know mines is way, way off, lol... Like it will show it idling at 2500, when i know for a fact that is not the case... If i get on it just a tad hair, it will max out (like around 7k rpms or something), when in fact I should only be around 3k or so... So yeah, mines has just got gradually worse and worse. I thought something was messed up with my car when i first saw it happen lol.... I do wonder how costly it would be to fix the problem though... Never have bothered to really look into it before.
