A friend of a friend called me looking for a steering column for an 85 Vette. He asked me if I could help him out. He also told me that he was told that only 1984 or 1985 columns would fit the 85. My question is, is that a correct statement? There are a lot of C4 Vette steering columns out there for sale. Seems like 84 - 89 should work. Appreciate any help.

84-89 should work.

86-89 will fit but they had VATS and slightly different wiring that "might" leave a need to change things a little... I haven't done that swap or looked real close at the wiring to be certain.
Just a heads -up on what you should research more.

Maybe he was referring mistakenly to the wheel. They were 84/5 only (thin design).

However, the newer, thicker wheels will fit the 84/85 columns.
