ported 195 afr heads or 210 ported afr heads ???
hi there guys,
im currently planning/saving to purchase a set of air flow research PORTED heads for early next year!
which i will be running on l98 engine with 383 stroker crank,6 speed,3.90rear ratio,1.6 roller rockers,thin race head gaskets ,elecrtic water pump,single mass 23 lb flywheel,8 throttle body cross ram intake,roller comp cam -280/288 adv duration/230/236 @ .50 thou duration,true dual 2.5" mandrel exhaust,x-pipe,long tube1/3/4" headers,free flow cats,magnaflow rear mufflers,e.c.t
so the question is guys, which size heads do i get ,195 cc ported afr or go the larger 210 cc ported afr heads please ?
will there be much diference in performance between the two ?
what hp would they be good for also ?
thanks alot
cheers

With your cam, exhaust and TPI i'd suggest stick with 195's.
What 8 throttle body intake are you planning to run and whats the cars intent? Drag, raod race or no track just street fun? Still with the cams duration you listed,i'd stick with a 195 head.

hi shinobi-x,
thanks for the reply.
the 8 throttle body cross ram intake has 1206 size ports and runs 8 -50 mm diameter seperate throttle bodies.
total rough length off runner/ram tube is 14 " long
the same intake that (boschvette ) forum member has and were threads/talk on it a few weeks ago.
i plan on using the car for fun/street cruising-traffic light to light racing, e.c.t.
cheers

also for got to ask guys,
what does it mean when they mention with " heat riser " ?
and also what size combustion chamber do i go for, 65 cc or 75 cc ?
whats the difference between the two ?
the cheapest i have seen them for the competition package complete with porting that is,was $ 2,017 the pair !!
has any one seen them cheaper at all any where please ?
thanks

if its not gonna buzz to 7-8k rpms,i'd say nay on the ported 210's. Stick with the 195's and have fun with some lowend grunt still.
if it were a 90% track car i'd say 210's,then go bigger cam, compression, etc. But since its a street car, save some torque and make it more usable.
Just MHO

195s are plenty for that motor.

If you're talking about the CNC Competition 195s...they flow around 300CFM at .600". They're good for well over 600 HP with enough cam. Combustion chamber size is dictated by pistons used; this determines your compression ratio. Don't worry about heat-risers, they're for carb intakes. Sounds like a good price on the heads.

hi guys thanks for all your help and advice.
im thinking when rebuild motor to bore out to 390 c.i,run 11:1 compression, run forged pistons and crank & not rev past 6,500 rpm
ok so i wll buy the 195 cc competition ported heads then, but what combustion chamber size do i buy please ? 75 or 65 cc ??

If you're buying new pistons anyway, I would go with the ones used for the smaller CC chamber. And, if you're going with a new crank, why not get at least a 3.875" stroke (396"+). A bigger stroker kit would make even better use of those heads and that intake system. Actually with your combo, the street 195s (286 CFM) would probably work just fine at around $1450-1500. But the CNC units do leave plenty of room for future "growth". How far are you boreing to get 390"? Many feel 60 over is pushing it a bit thin.

hi curveit,
thanks for the good info mate!
ok then,i will bore out only 30 thou then buy a 3.875 " stroker crank.
i think i might as well get the ported heads in the 195 cc range though while i am at it though for future growth .
so then i should go for the smaller cc combustion chamber size then which is 65 cc then ?
thanks for your help and time.
cheers

i used 220 ported ,polished race package AFR for my 86 supercharged.
it depend in what rpm range want your power curve !
i still have those heads somewhere.. if it still looks fine, i am willing to sell it for $600 icluding shipping to USA! good luck.
i paid $ 1800 for heads!

Chamber size will be determined by what pistons you can get and what comp you want.
Compression affects cam you need.Higher comp need more duration to keep DCR within reason on pump gas.
Bigger duration cam generally means possibly rough idle /low vac / poor bottom end performance = need lower gears
You need to work out what you want / how you want car to drive before buying any parts.
NB My 383 , zero decked with flat tops (-5cc)
is 11:1 comp with 63cc heads
