Default Corrosion at Plug Wire-Opti Connection

94 Coupe Manual

I tracked down a driveability and idle issue that only occurred when the engine was warm (15-20 minutes of driving) to plug wires. There were two issues; there was some intermittent arching, however, when I replaced the wires the wire-opti connection for #7 and 3 (IIRC) were badly corroded with a green and white powdery substance. I didn't have any dielectric grease at the time but the car ran great after the wire change. Yesterday, about a month later, I went back to put the dielectric grease in the wires and 7 and 3 had some white powdery substance again (may have been remnants from the original issue).

Anyway, what would cause this corrosion? The old wires were MSD 8.5s and the new ones are OEM Delcos.
Thanks
