Very good flywh. numbers.. If you go all out you can spend that much. Doesnt mean you HAVE to, just once you get to a point it becomes a "might as well" compulsive thing. I blew 12k on a 358 pretty easy, probably didnt need to but....

Congrats Huskers. I too am building another SR 383 and expecting good numbers. My mechanic took a week off to go moose hunting, or else I would already have it back.

Yay for the SR 383's!!

sounds like it is going to be worth the wait,..working out some bugs on my 383 superram, and as far as the money you now have a car that will run with a new vette or better. enjoy

I remember Huskers telling me he bought new rims too. Was that in the overall total of 13 large?

I have to admit, I'd like to see the specs. I'm really curious as to what has been done. I would think you topped out the SR's potential.

Correct, added tires also - AFS 88-96 Corvette Wheels Tires ZR1 17x11 BLACK with Vredestein Sessanta 275/40 ZR17 and 315/35 ZR17 tires - $13K I have spent on the engine alone and another $2K + on wheels, hoses etc. If I add the weatherstripping all around and custom Alpine radio and speakers I'm looking at $17,000-$17, 500 total . But for what its worth, the end result will be

Speed costs money. How fast do you want to go?

Still going to be a one of the cooolest and most powerful C4 383's out there. For what it's worth - time, knowledge, and $ will get you pretty much anything you ask in a 383 or any other engine for that matter. It was on the dyno, I will see what it is in the car by the end of next week.
Impressive numbers either way. Not trying to be a spoiler but it almost sounds like you trust him so much you will believe anything he says.

I spent just under 15K in 1994 for my motor from LPE. I'll never forget the first ride and actually everytime I take it out. If I'm having a bad day that car and the power make it all better.

Those are really good numbers. And i thought my TQ was high!

I can't fathom on how you guys can spend over $10k to build a 383. Are you paying shop labor as well? Are you paying for R/R labor to pull the motor and put it back in?

The last time I built a 383 out of a junkyard Vortec L31 roller block out of some truck, the total cost of doing it myself, as well as the labor was just under $3k. I bought all the parts of the internet and assembled it all by meticulously following a rebuild manual. I also had some of my friends help me pull the motor and put it back in. Of course I was using a relative's local machine shop since it has a lot of the necessary tools to work on many different kinds of engines. A typical rebuild of a 350 to a 355 is generally under $2k since its mostly consists of boring the cylinders .030" over, block tanking and cleaning, new rings, new bearings, new pistons, turning rod and crank main journals, etc. I feel like any rebuild over 8k would be rape, unless it has the best of the best materials the super duper performance race cars use....

Do I trust my guy, damn straight . There will not be any problems, if there ever were, they would be taken care of. No worries. In all fairness, the only person you can trust is your mother

Real easy to spend $13K..Especially if you buy nice forged parts and good heads. I have $2500 in just my heads and another $1300 in my intake manifold...Add in the forged bottom end, headers, exhaust, new clutch and flywheel, new distributor, plugs, wires, injectors, fluidampner, cam, lifters, roller rockers, fuel pump, water pump, radiator, etc...it adds up real quick...

Guess I'll have to be the first one to say it.

Seems several guys, including me, are very suspicious about those numbers, especially 580 ft lbs of torque from a normally aspirated 383, running a SuperRam. They seem way over the top.

I don't believe anyone's seen those kind of torque numbers from a normally aspirated 383 engine. Someone once posted that a dyno spike may show higher numbers than are actual, so that's why we'd like to see just what it is he used that can make those kind of numbers.
