Has anyone had any experience with the bargain rear hubs ($105 each) from The Last Detail? Their price is quite a bit lower than anywhere else I have seen. These are going into a 1984 Corvette with 180,000 miles. Thanks.
The TLD ones I bought are marked assembled in USA, Canada, China ?????
Not a lot of street miles but 200+ WOT passes at the strip; 1.7X 60's and no probs yet.
and there will probably never be problems as you're going in a straight line. There have been a lot of posts about bearings and one guy was even looking at a total redesign. Most bearings are only subjected to torture in rotation and ball or rollers and needles put up with it with no problem but hub bearings have severe lateral forces to contend with in cornering and the idea is to use a tapered roller bearing to contend with this. For my money it sounds like a good idea.I'm also really surprised that some enterprising individual with some basic engineering knowledge and a press isn't making a fortune refurbishing these things.I think Ecklers price is around $ 285 a side for the rears.the hubs don't degrade and the seals and bearings from timken are pennies on the dollar. There,I've gone and given another money making idea away
If you want bearings that last ,,get tappered bearings. One of the companys out there selling these are Wheel Bearings Direct, the manufacter doesn't sell retail direct to the public anymore but there is a ebay site that you can buy from. They have standard roller bearings for $69.99 and tappered HP bearings for $139.99 and these will last,These are made in the USA. Here is a email that I received from them the other day when I was inquiring about warrantys.

The warranty is one year. The HP is the same warranty. What the difference is between the two is the HP runs a taper bearing inside and the standard has a flat roller type. The HP typically out lasts the standard 3 to 1. Thanks.
I have two friends with corvettes that run autocross and they say the HP is the best they have used, I bought on there recommendation. WW

Can't be that hard to open up and retro fit with tapered bearings.

Someone makes a tapered bearing setup for C4's?
I've been trying to get a set to fit for a while.
That's the 1st I've heard of them.
Do you have a contact?
I know several forum vendors who could buy and resell.
