I know thats not what you meant by a 377, but i just wanted some people to know. Ive had plenty of guys think they have a 383 cause they stroked a 350 without boring it...Then i have to show them the displacement formula.fyi
I own my own business working on boats. Mercruiser makes a 377 stroked 350 that turns 5500 rpm all day and has plenty of power.A very nice motor. My 383 im building right now for my 88 will turn 7000, with power all the way there.
Any motor will survive what you want it to do as long as you throw the time, right parts, and your life savings at it!
I thought a 377 was a 400 block with 350 crank and bearing spacers. What am I missing here?

He's just saying it can go either way, a 400 with a 350 crank is a 377 and a 350 with a 400 crank (without being bored .030 over) is also a 377.

Don't forget to take into consideration the lifters.
Hydraulic rollers vs. solids.
Hyd will float the valves at the RPM's you're after.
Go for a solid
Not these days. GM sells hydraulic rollers good for 8000 rpm. No need for solid lifters on any street/strip engine any more.

GM sells hydraulic rollers good for 8000 rpm.
With the right valvetrain, maybe in certain circumstances.
. At that rpm a solid will always be more reliable.
They both have their place.

As a follow-up to the original post, I just ran across this 414cid SBC all built and ready to drop into a C4. That would be hard to beat for a no-muss, no-fuss engine for competition.

I've been eyeballing that motor for a year now, probably a bit to much cam for my street use but a sweet setup.
