Have you tried FLITZ?

I use it to polish chrome, aluminum, etc.

If it will take powder burns off my stainless steel Smith & Wesson .357 Mag after 200 rounds at the range it will take the carbon of your SS tips.

I used a green Scotchbrite pad on my steel ones. Worked great. Might scratch stainless, though.

this is probably a huge rookie mistake, but...

I use WD-40-soaked cloth and it seems to work like a charm!

use the finest steel wool that you can find and some metal or aluminum polish. Will work great without scratching. You can also use the steel wool on glass when washing to get rid of water spots.

WD-40 works good as does non-chlorinated brake parts cleaner. Once you have the carbon gunk off, use a good metal polish followed by some wax.

The wax won't last too long due to heat from the exhaust gasses, but it helps to make it easy to wipe off future deposits when you wash the car. I wax the tips on my Corsa system about once a month and any deposits come right off with no effort when I was the car.

Plain water will dissolve carbon.

When I wash my '94, I spray the stainless tips on the B&B system with the hose when I first wet down the car. Then as I continue to wash & rinse the car, I re-spray the tips every few minutes to keep them wet. By the time I'm done washing the car, I can wipe all of the carbon from the tips with a paper towel or terrycloth rag.

No fuss, no muss, no scratches. Couldn't be easier.

Be well,

SJW

After washing I used mother's metal polish and it actually keeps the carbon from building up for at least a week! Usually they're black in a day without it.

i just use a little soap and water on paper towels, comes right off the rolled outside portion of the tips.

then to express my pleasure at it all, i rip off a healthy fart and a deep belch. since its a weekly event, i get to do this 52 times a year

I just spray purple cleaner on them and wipe it all off with ease. Just make sure to wash it after you hit it with the degreaser.
