Opinions on cold air ind. "claw" on Corv. 1992?

I had one of these in my 95 LT1 and liked it. Perception was that the car was a little more brisk off the line as well as a little louder at WOT.
When I bought my current ride (a 96 LT4) I picked up another claw from SLP but was totally dissatisfied with its quality. There were burrs all around it, and what appeared to be tiny but loose metal granules that just coated the inside. Not wanting to run the risk of this crap getting sucked into the engine, I sent it back and went with an open air box.
