Default WTF is this plug and why is it leaking oil?

I was troubleshooting my oil leak, and I thought it was coming from my oil filter. Upon further investigation, I found oil shooting a lot of oil out of this plug, and I'm not sure why it's even lubricated or what it does. I included 2 pictures so you get an idea of where it's at, and what it does. I removed the windshield wiper motor before taking this shot, if that wasn't obvious already. I'd really like to get this oil leak fixed! Thanks in advance!

P.S. Sorry for the poor image quality, they were taken with my iPhone in low-light conditions.

So I'm going to have to replace that, right?

Here's a picture of where the oil was ejecting, out of that tiny hole:

How much do those run, and is it a pain in the *** to replace?

not sure on price but they're easy enough to replace, they just unscrew with a wrench, kinda tight back there though.. make sure you use thread sealer or teflon tape on the new one to prevent leaks..

IIRC my 86 had 2 seperate units, an oil pressure switch for the fuel pump, and an oil pressure sensor for the gauge.. may vary depending on year.. the plug you have there looks like the one for the oil pressure switch for the fuel pump to me.

Yeah, I think this one has two seperate units, but I think this was the only leak. At the very least, it was easily the worst. The oil was shooting out of this plug.

Well it sounds like you found your culprit! replace it, clean it up, recheck for leaks and you should be on your way

Around $20, pretty easy if you dont mind pulling the distributor.

I would have posted earlier, but I was busy driving my Vette around, problem fixed. Cost me 12.61, including a new drive. Didn't have to pull the distributor either, just used a wratchet extension and the 1&1/16th drive I learned I needed in this thread, after finding out what to google:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1834108

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate it. I was able to take the Vette off of the jack stands and enjoy a very nice night drive. 2 hours of troubleshooting, 25 minutes of dicking around with the thing, 30 minutes to buy the parts, 15 to replace it. Thanks again!
