Default How much do slicks help?

With a high torque engine who gets little to no traction off the line, how much will the slicks drop et? If the slicks eliminate lots of tire spin, then I'm assuming the et, 60 ft, and trap speed will all improve greatly.

Thanks

I don't get any tire spin with my slicks. Luckily I haven't found out yet, but all that traction is hard on things; U-joints and clutches. They'll drop your et some but they can be a pain considering that you have to change em at the track all of course carry the slicks with you and all of the tools neccessary to change em.

Do slicks benefit a hi torque motor more than a hi hp motor? Or is there any corelation there?

I would say so yes. Since torque is what gets you off the line. With the slicks you would utilize more of your torque. You could foot brake it as high as it will rev and then put it to the wood at the launch or with a standard you could experiment with different rpms at launch. No more loss of ET due to 2nd gear tire hazing either.

Thanks, that's the answer I was hoping to hear. I went for a dyno run today. Dissappointed by only 303.4 rwhp @4700 RPM, but happy with 398.2 rwtq @ 3500 RPM.

I need slicks to get traction. Playing around with my gtech, just leaving slowly off the line, my best et was 13.6 @ 110 mph. I'm spinning going into 4th. So, with slicks, I am hoping to be able to dump the clutch at about 3500 RPM and save some of those precious seconds from my et.

What all is inside that 383. I'm looking for an idea of what mine will produce. Although you have more cubes. Close to 400 ft pounds  ya might have to pick some slicks up. I'm realy happy with my ET drags. I have them on draglites and switch them from my bracket racer to my vette.

We did like 4 or 5 dyno pulls with a dyno tuner who's used to Hondas. I wish I had a vette tuner there. As for what's inside the 383, I'll have to update my webpage ( http://corvette.da.ru ) and do a listing. About a month ago, I came on to the gas coming around a corner and twisted my driver's side half shaft like a licorice. I knew I was making some serious torque then.
