Default Petcock-which way?

I know this is dumb but I can't help myself. With the petcock closed, which way do you turn it to open the flow? Thanks, Frank

Not dumb. Usually you turn it in. Like tightening a bolt.

Most bolts, etc follow the "right hand rule". Wrap the fingers of your right hand around the bolt (mentally) with thumb sticking up. To move the device in the direction of your thumb (loosen) turn the wrench in the direction your fingers point.

On my '88 when I face the petcoch I turn the end cap counter-clockwise.
