Muffler Eliminators and Torque/Horsepower Loss???
Is this truth or fiction? I don't see where they have the ability to add any measurable amount of power but I don't understand how they can hurt. If it's a matter of "too little backpressure" (whatever that means) why do cat back systems (which flow even more air) manage to add power?
Has anyone done a back to back chassis dyno test with eliminators on a LT-1 or LT-4 car?

Well, the thing of it is there's a point of diminishing returns...
For what its worth, when I bought my '87, the mufflers had rusted off. I replaced the system with a custom made dual exhaust system w/ no cats and a pair of Dynomax mufflers. I didn't really notice a huge difference in power. Then again, I went from 2 pre cats, 1 main cat, and no mufflers (all 14 years old) to no cats and 2 new mufflers...
It seems to me that eliminating the mufflers might hurt torque just a little and might increase horsepower just a little, but I'm no pro..
I didn't do the !mufflers thing cause I wanted to shut the car up! It was WAY too loud on the inside.

Having done this on my car, I noticed no loss in torque at all. I also could not tell any gain in HP. What I did notice is that the engine seemed to rev quicker. I would really question anyone that says they can feel anything less than about a 30HP difference with their butt anyway.

It's been said that LT-x engines are built around some back pressure and losing that will effect the power. MR.Mojo on this forum has tested this on the track and shown a MPH decrease on his car... thats showing some loss in power. It's generally not a lot and the sound it gives can out weigh the slight loss.

I had a set of eliminators built last month with dual pipes. We are having dyno day on January 19th, I will post the results. I can only say in defense of them, they sound bad as hell (good) winding up. I do feel that I have had a little loss in the low end but she screams in the top end.

Got mine done last week. Didn't notice a difference. But if there is a little loss, I say it's worth the awesome sound :yesnod:
